NaturaGrow Volunteers Adopt
the Augustus Hawkins Nature Park
Citrus Tree Garden

NaturaGrow® Members, Annie Pierce and Marina Montgomery volunteered in November 2022 to help restore the Augustus Hawkins Nature Park’s Citrus Orchard and Garden Area, which had been abandoned for years after the Staff Caretaker of the Garden retired. The trees were dying, and the raised beds were all full of weeds. Now, with the love and care of NaturaGrow®, all of the 30+ Citrus Trees have beautiful leaves and many are growing small baby fruits! Also, several of the raised beds are growing Romaine Lettuce, Arugula, and Red Swiss Chard that garden visitors are enjoying!

NaturaGrow® plans for the Augustus Hawkins Nature Park to be first of a series of Edible Gardens and free Gardening Workshops throughout the networks of Los Angeles City and County Parks, teaching children, youth, and adults about the health and wealth benefits of growing their own veggies, fruits, herbs, and edible flowers, using simple Natural Agriculture methods. However, NaturaGrow® needs the community support to be able to carry out this expansive vision! Please donate to NaturaGrow's parent non-profit Organization, Youth Publications, Inc. to make this dream become a reality! NaturaGrow® and NaturaCare® Launch
The 30-Day “GBOMBS” Challenge

Annie Pierce, the NaturaGrow® and NaturaCare® CEO remarked, ”I was shocked last year when I discovered that the Hispanic community led the entire country in Obesity, High Blood Pressure, and Diabetes! It seems that this community doesn’t realize how their traditional and cultural eating habits negatively affect their health, and a similar situation is also true for the African American Communityl! We want to show these communities how EASY it can be to replace their poor unhealthy diet and eating habits by learning to grow fruits and vegetables using Natural Agriculture methods, and preparing delicious entrees with time-tested healthy recipes.“

On Saturday, July 8th, 2023, NaturaGrow® introduced its Gardening Students to the wonderful world of SPROUTED SEEDS, and all of the nutritional and health advantages of eating Sprouts on a DAILY basis. This workshop will also give the students the opportunity to have their weight, blood pressure, and blood sugar levels recorded by one of the NaturaCare® Health Providers for participation in the 30-DAY “GBOMBS” Challenge, where participants will challenge themselves to only eat Fresh Organic Greens, Beans, Onions, Mushrooms, Berries, and Seeds, and drink water and Herbal Teas for the next 30 Days to significantly improve their health.

NaturaGrow Celebrates Earth Day
with the First Lemon Harvest

APRIL 4, 2024 – Los Angeles , CA –NaturaGrow®, announced today that in conjunction with the Augustus Hawkins EARTH DAY CELEBRATION, on Sunday, April 21, 2024, from 11am – 3pm, there will be a Lemon Harvest for visitors to freely pick the abundant fresh and delicious lemons growing in the Citrus Orchard area of the Park.       The Augustus F. Hawkins Nature Park is located at 5790 Compton Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90011.

Annie Pierce, Founder of Youth Publications, Inc., and Co-Founder of NaturaGrow® says, “This event is a wonderful celebration of our Earth’s abundance, and we want the community to come and harvest these wonderful lemons, while they also enjoy the music and games at the Park’s Earth Day Celebration.  Jethro Kloss indicated in his famous book, BACK TO EDEN, that the drinking of the juice of lemons and water DAILY can help keep your body in a continuous state of alkalinity, so that you will never be sick!  We are steadfast in our intention to help the residents of Los Angeles as well as the rest of the country to become healthier and happier.”

It’s been over a year and a half, since NaturaGrow® started taking care of the Augustus Hawkins Park’s citrus trees.  With weekly watering, love, and care, NaturaGrow® members were able to revive all the trees, and were able to offer the community not only FREE Gardening and Health Classes during the summer, but a “Pick-It-Fresh” Orange Harvest in December, during the Park’s Christmas-Toys Give-Away event, and now, a Lemon Harvest, for the hundreds of ripened lemons that have been steadily growing in the Orchard.

With enough tax-deductible donations, NaturaGrow® will be able to create Edible Gardens at other LA City Parks located in identified FOOD DESERTS throughout Los Angeles.  This will make it easier for underserved LA residents to access fresh, healthy fruits and vegetables without having to travel miles from their homes.
